Electrically powered Vertical Take Off and Landing (eVTOL) aircraft are poised to revolutionise air mobility. Their success depends heavily on regulatory approval, gaining public trust and robust operational performance. At Delta System Solutions we focus on supporting the Safety Compliance that eVTOL manufacturers need to adhere to meet the evolving aviation safety standards required by FAA, and EASA. Complimentary to this is the Reliability Analysis that underpins the safety case and provides assurance of meeting dispatch reliability expectations whilst minimising maintenance costs.
EASA SC-VTOL enhanced category aircraft require similar exacting safety objectives to large civil airliners. This drives redundancy and other techniques such as design dissimilarity into the aircraft’s systems. Safety and Reliability analysis plays a vital role allowing eVTOL developers to validate aircraft and system architecture early in the development lifecycle.
Distributed Electrical Propulsion systems and their battery power sources cross the traditional boundaries between propulsion, fuel system and flight control systems found in conventional aircraft. This presents some unique challenges for designing both the flight control system and ePowertrains to be compliant to no single failure requirements of SC-VTOL and SC E-19. In partnership with developers, we perform common mode assessments to ensure your certification program is compliant to common mode failures including design and development errors.
We have been providing Safety and Reliability services to this continually developing industry since 2019 and are committed to advancing the state of the art in eVTOL safety. We play a significant role in the EUROCAE working group WG112 leading the production of ED-300A Guidance on conducting an AFHA and PASA for a VTOL.
